A new romantic mystery from Amazon best-selling author,
Elodie Parkes
Jake Snow
Private detective, Jake Snow, has grown tired of working
alone since his sister Bethany married, and stopped working on field cases with
him. He's chosen less high-powered cases as he decides against teaming with
another partner from the Black Agency. Gradually Jake realizes he wants the
kind of love his sister found, and a different job...
When he's sent on what he thinks is a simple surveillance
assignment, just before he's due to take his requested extended leave, he finds
a tangled web of lies, and a fashion designer in trouble...
The question is, will he also find love?
Snippet:
Jake had put in a request for leave
the day before. He needed a change of scenery. He was tired and lonely. He let
himself think about his sister Bethany. It had been almost two years since she
met and married Seth Carbery, an actor they’d both been assigned to help with
some hate mail. Jake and Bethany had worked together in the Black private
detective agency since university, and even before graduation, they’d done some
jobs for Brandt Black the owner. Jake missed his sister. For the first six
months after her marriage, Bethany tried to keep up her career and work with
Jake, but then she couldn’t take the separations from Seth and he in turn was
miserable without her. She gave up her field job and only did research now,
online from wherever she was with Seth. Right now, they were in Los Angeles,
filming in studios before going on location some place.
Jake couldn’t blame her for wanting
to be with her husband. He’d watched them right from the beginning of their
relationship. At first, he was amused by their total devotion to each other,
and then as he realized just how they gelled and loved so completely, he began
to feel a little wistful about his own continuing single status. The last time
he saw Seth he told him this, and Seth said how he’d longed for real love,
never thinking it would come, but it did, out of the blue, and with enough
force to knock him flat. He said to Jake, ‘it will happen.’
Now Jake had reached a place in his
life where he really needed something. He’d like to have the kind of love his sister
shared with Seth where they sparkled with desire and care for each other, but
right now sex might be good...just a
straight forward few weeks of full on fucking. He grinned to himself.
