Genre: Contemporary, Erotic, Suspense, Organized Crime
Length: Full length, 90k+

In the mess of love and life, nothing and no one is left untouched.

After everything the Russian mob boss Anton Avdonin has done to keep his family safe from the dangers of the world surrounding them, he never thought it would come down to this. The officials are knocking, the charges are piling, his wife is hurting, and they’re facing a fate he never thought to consider. He didn’t just make one mistake … no, he made many. It’s time to answer for them all.

Viviana “Vine” Avdonin is stuck watching the life she adores crumble around her. Bad decisions have led to terrible consequences in more ways than one. She doesn’t have time to recover from one devastating tragedy that leaves her shattered before the next one is crushing down, too. Saving her husband from a life sentence might be the easiest thing she has to do when her own misdeeds are staring her in the face.

Together, Anton and Viviana have survived more than once, but this path will be by far, the hardest they’ve ever walked. Sometimes they have to walk it alone … because forgiveness isn’t always black and white and love can be blurred by pain. With the blissful ignorance gone and the blinders removed, how much of themselves will they have to sacrifice to come out on top one last time?

When everyone has a score to settle, it’s hard to notice the person causing the most heartache is the one staring back in the mirror.
*Please Note: The Score is not a standalone title. The first books in the Russian Guns series (The Arrangement, followed by The Life) should be read first*

Anton flinched, disgust filling him to the brim. This whole situation was horrible, and he felt dirty with ten grimy fingers pointing straight at his guilty chest.
“Well, aside from firing her, there’s not much I can—”
Anton didn’t get to finish his sentence. A loud bang and shouted orders rang out in the downstairs of the club. The tinkling sounds of canisters popping along the empty floor echoed up to their spot. There was no denying what was happening downstairs.
“Fuck,” Ivan muttered.
Instantly, Anton was off his office chair, ignoring the gun he knew was in the desk, and the information of a shipment, never mind the laptop he should have tried to somehow destroy. No, instead, the only thing he could think of was the little boy on the floor with wide blue eyes and terrified, reaching for his father.
“Papa?” Demyan cried.
“Shhh, little man,” Anton whispered.
In his arms, he held his son tighter and turned his back to the door of the office. It seemed like only milliseconds, but his mind was running a million miles a minute. Anton couldn’t begin to understand why the officials would be raiding his club. His guys certainly hadn’t been given any indication and they’d all been pretty quiet.
Demyan’s shaking increased as the shouts down below became louder. “It’s okay, Demyan, it’s okay. Papa’s here.”
The sounds of a dozen or more pairs of boots pounding up the metal staircase ratcheted up Anton’s nerves to a breaking point.
“Anton …” Ivan started to say. “Anton, give me your son!”
The hardest thing Anton ever had to do, next to walking out of his house that morning knowing his wife’s heart was breaking, was hand his trembling, scared, and crying son off to another man. It was safer for Demyan, though.
No doubt, they weren’t there for Ivan.
Anton watched Ivan curl a fighting Demyan into his chest as he got to his knees on the floor and automatically put his hands behind his head. The less threatening he seemed at their entrance, the less likely they were to cause him harm, never mind his son seeing it.
“Demyan, it’s okay,” Anton repeated when the first kick to the door landed with a solid thump. The second and third only followed louder, harder. “Hide his face, Ivan!”
When the door finally broke, it wasn’t a second before Anton found himself face down on the floor, his son’s cries overtaking all other sounds. Cuffs tightened around his wrists to an almost painful point, but Anton refused to show it. A boot landed hard between his shoulder blades, keeping him pinned to the floor even though he wasn’t fighting.
Papa!”
“Anton Daniil Avdonin, you’re under arrest for the murder of Sonny Carducci, Tatiana Belov, Sergei Belov …”

Spooky Sojourn from author Ashley Ladd #giveaway #sexysnippet

Someone’s trying to kill Deanna, but is it the ghosts she doesn’t believe in, the rich socialite who might be a murderess, or someone else with a beef against The Gilroy Hotel and Resort that Deanna has just been hired to manage?  The Gilroy’s owners want the ghosts, or whoever is causing the trouble at the hotel eliminated, and they are pressuring Deanna to do the job as quickly as possible. Harry DeVeaux, paranormal investigator comes highly recommended to do the job and against Deanna’s better judgment, she hires him.

Although Deanna thinks Harry’s crazy for believing in ghosts and Harry thinks Deanna has a closed mind to the possibilities of ghosts and they highly annoy each other, sparks fly. Deanna can’t help but fantasize about Harry and inspired by a romance convention visiting her hotel, writes her fantasies in a private blog that Harry finds, hacks, and reads. Ooh la la!
Read an excerpt:
A pregnant pause rent the air as she veiled her eyes from his view. Finally, she smoothed her skirt against her legs and admitted, “Yes. I have very mixed feelings about you. You make me crazy the way we argue, the way you believe in ghosts, and yet I find myself thinking about you, fantasizing about you.”
Taking heart in the last part even if he wasn’t sure he liked the first, he said with a lopsided grin, “You fantasize about me much?”
As if she suddenly got bold, she sidled up to him with a mischievous twinkle in her eyes and ran the tip of her finger down his chest. “Aren’t my blogs proof? The question is, do you fantasize about me?”
He wanted to scoop her into his arms and haul her into that king size bed right now and have his wicked way. The sooner they lost every stitch of their clothing, the better. Luckily, he’d started packing protection since reading her blogs as he’d been thinking about ravishing her, not that he thought he’d ever get the chance. I am right now.” He lowered his chin, smiled lasciviously, and crooked his finger at her. “Come here, baby.”
“I can’t believe this is real,” she said huskily. Yet she started to move toward him.
She glided so seamlessly she seemed to float. When she was within touching distance, he drew her into the circle of his arms, bent his mouth and captured her lips. He teased her with his tongue, seeking entrance to her mouth. He rocked against her, molding her curvy body to his. She was so warm, so soft, he wanted to lose himself in her. Against her lips he murmured, “I’m usually the one you accuse of believing in fantasy. Are we switching places?”
“Um. Maybe. Crazy isn’t it?” She kissed him back languidly at first, then with more fervor. She curled her arms around his neck and let her fingers play in the hair at the nape of his neck.
While her hands went north, his traveled south. His palms slipped from her waist to her buttocks, cupping them. Then he crushed her to him, yearning to be one with her. “Absolutely insane.”
“We shouldn’t be doing this.” But she didn’t try to draw away, didn’t stop rubbing against him, inciting him.
“Yes we should.” Her nipples budded against him and she quaked. Her flesh was heated and she couldn’t stop kissing him. If those weren’t signs she wanted him, nothing was.
He returned her kisses and let his hands roam her body. Eager to feel her naked flesh against his, he pulled her uniform top out of her skirt. When she didn’t protest, he lifted it over her head and tossed it onto the chair. Her breasts were barely contained in her wispy, lacy red bra, the large milky mounds trying to spill out.
Unable to help himself, he bent his head and buried his face in her cleavage. He shoved one side off her aureole and laved her burgeoning nipple with his tongue. When she moaned and craned back her head to give him better access, he reached around and unsnapped her bra and whisked it away across the room. She writhed against him and he cupped her other breast in his hand.
Breathlessly, she asked, “What did you think of my fantasy?”
“It made me really hot. I say on your next day off we go to Miami to that nude beach and make out.”

He’d been sent off course…he thought he was lost…until he found Daisy.

His vampire abilities were special. He belonged to an elite group. Moving home, they are set off course by a storm that lands Dhruv alone, hungry, and desperate in a strange town. A story of lust, love, and coincidence.

They lay there in the damp grass with the smell of wet vegetation and the occasional sound of a bird fidgeting in the leaves of the trees.
“I think I could be falling in love with you.” He felt her words spear his heart. She had said them softly between kisses. He took his lips away from hers. The gentle way she held him made him pulse with emotion close to the one he felt when he thought about his lost clan members. He closed his eyes and rested his cheek against hers briefly.
“Don’t fall in love with me. I’m only passing through.” His voice cracked with emotion as he knelt, slid his cock from her, and stood to stare down at her.
He helped her up and found her clothes. He watched as she hurriedly put them on. He dragged on his jeans, T-shirt, and jacket.
“I don’t want to hurt you, Daisy. Don’t fall in love with me.” He knew he must have a mate somewhere else, waiting for him to find her.
He took her hand and led her out of the trees, over the bridge, and down the path.
“How do we get to your place from here?” He put his arm around her shoulders.
“It’s down the high street here as we exit the park, second left, and then left again. I’m sorry, about the ‘falling for you’ thing…I don’t mean to crowd you, or…”
He didn’t let her finish the apology because her voice was full of sadness.
He leaned over and kissed her mouth closed. He knew he felt something for her and hid from it. They walked to her place. He held her hand.
At the stairs to her apartment, he moved back a few steps.
“I’ll leave you here.” He wanted to warn her about the bite in case it scared her when she saw it. “I’m sorry. I sucked a bit too hard on the … love bite. There’s a big mark.” He gestured towards her neck, and saw her nod.
“It’ll be okay. Will you be at the bar tomorrow?”
He heard her voice hopeful and with a trace of worry. His heart, long dead, felt even more like a stone than usual. He knew she was worried that now they’d fucked she wouldn’t see him again. He wanted to see her again so badly it made him shake.
“I’ll be there.” His voice was a whisper and he turned. He walked quickly away. When he judged he was out of her line of vision, he burst into speed, and fled back to the sanctuary of the trees and the rustle of leaves in the dark.

EXCERPT (18+)

“I never drink and you’re going to make me drink alone?” A grin tugged at Terry’s lips at Brian’s sullen comment. “You need the fortification while I’ve had more than my fair share for one lifetime.” Brian’s speech was already beginning to slow down. “It’s not right to leave a man hanging.” “I have to drive you home and I don’t drink and drive.” Brian slipped down an inch in his chair. Crossing his arms over his chest, he stared at Terry through his lashes. “I could stay here.” Although Terry doubted Brian’s proposition was intended the way he would’ve liked, it still caused his cock to lengthen. “It wouldn’t be the first time I slept in a chair.” That statement might have taken the bite out his arousal if Brian’s tone hadn’t gone sultry. Not to mention, his eyes darkened. Terry shifted in his seat to hide his erection. The expression on Brian’s face was hot as hell. “I wouldn’t let you sleep in a chair.” He hoped Brian was now wondering where he would allow him to sleep. Of course, the answer was nowhere. If Brian stayed, neither of them would get any rest. Brian tossed back another shot before straightening in his seat. “If I’m not staying then I’d better go home. I’d hate to pass out on you and like I said, I don’t drink often.” With a nod, Terry stood. Brian attempted to follow suit but swayed on his feet. Racing forward, Terry caught him before he could hit the ground. The motion left them chest to chest. A nervous sounding chuckle vibrated from Brian. Terry could feel it against his skin. Their gazes met. The sound died. “You’re very bossy,” Brian said, surprising a chuckle from Terry. “You’re very drunk,” Terry countered. Brian didn’t move away. Neither did Terry. “I’ll get over being drunk, you’ll always be bossy.” “I have a feeling—if you remember any of this tomorrow—you’re going to be horrified.” Brian was staring at his mouth. He shook his head. “Nope. I haven’t done anything to be embarrassed about...yet.” Terry marveled over the way Brian’s eyes gave away his every emotion. They seemed to flash from light to dark brown and back again as he visibly struggled against his desire. Unable to keep from doing so, Terry gave him an extra shove. Using his voice against him, he allowed a hint of his growing lust to seep into his tone. “Do you intend to?” With his gaze still locked on Terry’s mouth, Brian nodded. “Do it,” Terry taunted. The words barely passed his lips before Brian claimed his mouth. For Terry, it was like tossing gasoline on already raging bonfire. It was everything he’d fantasized it would be with an extra helping of expertise tossed into the mix. The way Brian’s tongue stroked the roof of his mouth before slipping away and reappearing again left Terry with no choice except to chase after it. The moment he thought he had him, Brian sank his teeth into Terry’s bottom lip, tugging gently. Terry gasped. He couldn’t remember a time he’d been this close to coming in his jeans, especially from nothing more than a kiss. At the sound, Brian turned his face away, resting his forehead on Terry’s shoulder. His shoulders heaved as he visibly struggled to catch his breath. “The room is spinning.” Terry clamped his back teeth together. His muscles seized tight as he attempted to control his lust. “That’s because the world tilted,” Terry said once he found his voice.

Author Antonia St. Simon visits the blog today with her new Evernight Publishing release, 'Love in Lederhosen' #erotic

Antonia is by day a professional development specialist and by night an erotic romance writer. She makes her home in Florida with her husband Andrew. This particular book has a scene that really happened to Antonia when she was in Germany with her mom! That trip inspired this little tale!! Hmmmm, which scene was it????

Love in Lederhosen
When Silke is forced to go to Germany with her mother, she decides to put this time to good use.  Silke will find herself a man and have a delicious, no strings attached affair! There's just one tiny problem—Horst, and he is anything but tiny. Horst, a family friend that she barely remembers, knows what he wants and is intent on fulfilling his dream. Will Silke find the orgasm of her dreams or a love she can't live without? Leave your inhibitions at the door and find out...

Excerpt:

Tilting her head slightly, her eyes followed his thigh past where underwear should have been and beheld the largest male organ she had ever seen nestled in a massive tuft of jet back hair. It was as if the gods had placed him here for her to practice on. How perfect was this, the plumber. A local. Ripe for the picking.

The legs moved and it seemed as if the show was over…then Silke was inwardly cursing…more movement and she was blessed with another opportunity to scrutinize the object of her first international fling.

Yes, yes, that will do nicely. The plumber’s t-shirt had now ridden up a bit to expose a flat stomach with a line of hair that seemed to point like an arrow to the Promised Land. If she could just tear her eyes away she wanted to run to the bathroom, dump out all her potions and creams and subtract the last 12 hours of travel stamped on her face.

Spinning around and forgetting about the view from the window, Silke crashed right into her grandmother, who fell back onto her mother.

“Vat’s a matter, why are you sweating?”

Well mother, I had an eye orgasm, Silke thought, not knowing what to say.

“Horst? Is es schlim?” Oma asked the legs.

Herta sprang into the kitchen and reached between the plumber’s legs. What the hell? Silke thought, I’m not ready yet, Oma's arm kept me from fleeing.

Sure enough, Silke’s mom reached in and took a handful of man candy. The guy sat up, whacking his head on the pipes, then laughing and scrambling to get to his feet…

“Tante Herta!”

Oh no… Tante…

Did her ears betray her, was her German so rusty…?

Did The Legs really say Aunt Herta?

Giggles erupted from behind Silke and The Penis got up and brushed past her to scoop up her mom, spinning her around.

“Silke you remember Horst. No?”

Hung like one maybe, but she never remembered anyone in the family looking like that. This couldn’t be the cousin that her grandma raised after his mom died. No, not the one who she remembered looking vaguely like Don Knotts with long, stringy, black hair and married to that bitch no one liked. What was her name? Liselle?

This specimen before her bore no resemblance to a person she had ever seen before. Silke would’ve  recognized that if she saw it!

The last time I saw Horst he looked a little like Barney Fife and his wife resembled the woman in Babe the Gallant Pig, all doughy with a greasy, chubby face. I always wondered how she didn’t break him when they had sex or worse yet, smother him with her massive thighs when he ever went south.

Now…now…oh god I’ve seen his penis…and my grandma and mom saw me ogling him. Yuck… visual incest… my eyes were probably going fall out… especially since I was entertaining such impure thoughts.

Horst…good name for him…

He slowly, gently, took a few strands of her hair. It slipped between his fingers and he gazed into her eyes. He saw her lean toward him and knew she’d return his kiss. He bent his head to hers. A fraction away from her lips he gazed into her eyes and saw lust. His cock jerked in his jeans. He met her mouth, kissed her slowly, lingering, and sucking her bottom lip a little, as his heart hammered in his chest.

Manic readers
Forever Blue is a lovely little love story. It is ethereal to the max, and I pictured it, if it was a movie, as being shot with a soft focus lens, with muted colors. That is a testament to Parkes’ ability with the descriptive word.
I loved the story, not so much for the love, but for the other worldliness of the whole thing which takes over the story and the characters.  Jasper’s story is poignant and engaging.

She frowned. “What the hell’s happened?” She was quite sure this was not how the spell worked. Granted, she hadn’t exactly read the entire information sheet on the website.
“No one does,” she whined, bouncing on the balls of her feet while staring at the flickering flame of the candle. The thing was more than 20 pages long. It was like reading one of those software agreements. No one read the damn thing. She’d read the instructions and the first page with all the warnings and that was more than enough. Taking a deep breath, she managed to settle her nerves a little. Everyone thought she was the ditsy blonde obsessed with the occult, but she wasn’t. She was a hard worker, impatient when things didn’t go as expected. It was partially the reason why she’d filed through so many relationships. Why stay with a guy when he clearly had nothing to offer? Some of her friends argued that she didn’t give them a chance. She begged to differ. She’d given them a chance, they just hadn’t taken it.
True, her impatience sometimes got her into some trouble but it also saved her from a lot of it. That, however, wasn’t the case now. Annoyed that the spell had gone awry, she brushed back her bangs impatiently. Whatever had happened was not important. The priority was getting Hannah back home. Scanning the room for her discarded laptop, she did a double take.
Obstructing the exit to the living room stood the most gorgeous man she had laid eyes on. He was massive. His head almost brushed the top of the doorframe. His heavily muscled arms were crossed in front of him, his chest bare except for the intricate design of a red-inked tattoo that started around his left nipple and descended across his side to his hip. Low on his hips, he wore a long black skirt made out of what looked like leather.
Hailey hesitated a moment before finally glancing fully at his face. Her breath stilled as their eyes locked. A clear shade of violet, they were not from this world. Swallowing, she took a step backwards without breaking her stare. The stranger’s eyes glittered with curiosity and amusement.
“Careful with the center of the star,” he warned.
Hailey stumbled and froze. His voice was deep and commanding and had a familiar ring to it that sent her senses reeling. Shaking her head slightly, she continued moving away from him.

“Watch—”
Breath exploded from her lungs as she crashed into a shelf, a few ornaments she and Hannah kept, crashing to the floor.
“—out. Are you all right?”
Hailey winced, the back of the shelf digging into her skin, but she nodded anyway. The stranger flashed her a grin that made her knees weak. Hailey swallowed. The urge to see him smile again clawed at her insides like a desperate hunger.
Ignoring her, he glanced down at the pentagram, his silky dark curls framing his strong jaw and straight nose.
“You don’t look like you knew what you were getting into.”
Hailey held on to the bookcase behind her. She was afraid that if she moved the whole thing would topple over her head and she’d wake up, realizing that the man in the center of the room was nothing more than a dream.
“Read the first page of the instructions and didn’t bother to read the rest, huh?”
His eyes lifted to hers with a sassy smirk that lit up his violet eyes. Hailey stared speechless, the urge to touch the man making her palms itch as if she’d stepped into poison ivy.
“Yeah, you never did care what you got into, Ariadne.”
Goose bumps sprouted over her flesh and she released the shelf, rubbing her arms in an attempt to warm her suddenly chilled skin. Ariadne. The name rang in her ears like a long forgotten memory always running at the edge of her vision, just a breadth away from her grasp.
“I—”
No words came out as he carefully watched her face, almost as if saving every detail of her features into his memory. Her mouth felt parched, her tongue too large, as she searched for words that wouldn’t come.
 “Yes?”
Butterflies danced in the pit of her stomach and her chest tightened, making it difficult to breathe. Fear mingled with a strange sense of joy. Names, places, and moments in time danced in the edge of her vision, taunting her to remember them, taunting her to say them aloud but fleeing before she could take hold of them.
“My name isn’t…”
The man raised his dark eyebrows, the shadow of a smile lifting the edge of his full lips.
“I know.”
“Oh.”

Hi everyone! I’m thrilled to be here today with none other than the God of Love, Cupid!
*Cupid tilts his head in acknowledgment, his locks gleaming under the sunlight like sparks of gold beneath a river bed. He smiles at me from the other side of the garden table.*
Cupid: I am pleased to be here and thankful to you for retelling my child’s story. There are some valuable lessons in Arcanus Amator.
Elyzabeth: For instance?
Cupid: Not all that glitters is gold. There is light in darkness. We can be blind to that which lies in front of us.
*He bursts out laughing. His blue eyes twinkle.*
Cupid: I recommend readers pick up the book and discover them themselves.
Elyzabeth: Of course, but I would interview you if that’s all right.
Cupid: Certainly.
Elyzabeth: Can you tell us how it is to be in charge of the world’s most important emotion?
Cupid: It’s a very big responsibility, Elyzabeth. That’s why I have my children to help me.
Elyzabeth: Ah, yes, the Arcánús. They’re also your guard, no?
Cupid: Not my guards. They are the guardians of love. They’re the ones that help me bestow love upon others.
Elyzabeth: But they’re also deadly.
Cupid: If the need arises…
Elyzabeth: Like with Ariadna.
*Cupid frowns. He folds his hands over the table and stares into the distance for a few seconds.*
Cupid: Yes, as it happened the witch Ariadna proved to be a curse.
Elyzabeth: Figuratively and literally.
*Cupid says nothing. His long fingers wrap around his tall glass of water and he takes another sip of water. As he sets his glass down, he looks at me.*
Cupid: Yes. She cursed the Arcanus because she was blind to love.
Elyzabeth: Blind to love? Are you sure that it wasn’t simply that the Gods of love neglected her.
*Cupid leans forward. The friendly gleam in his eyes has vanished and is replaced by a silent power I can’t help but feel uneasy.*
Cupid: Love is there for everyone to grasp, Elyzabeth. However, sometimes we are blind to it. *He raises his hand to silence me.*
It can be because we’re too busy working or because we’re pursuing other interests. At times it can happen as quickly as lightening falls from the sky and at other times it can take years, but it is there. We neglect no one.
Elyzabeth: All right, all right. But Ariadne--
*Cupid laughs*
Cupid: Doomed herself and—
Elyzabeth: Arcánús Amator spell?
Cupid: Was a little something I concocted, but I do not have much more time to spare, Elyzabeth.
*I stand with Cupid as he pulls his chair back from the table.*
Know this, love, like life, is a complicated game, but it is better to have loved one night than to not love forever.
*Cupid places his hands over his heart as he speaks. I follow his gaze as he stares up at the bright blue sky. When I look at him again, he’s gone.*
Elyzabeth: Thank you, Cupid and thank you readers. I hope you enjoyed this brief, yet I think intense interview with the God of Love.

Read an excerpt:
Lord Corville was surprised that Lady Jersey had led him directly into a vision of lovely youth. Usually wallflower duty was how it sounded, giving an opportunity to dance a few sets to girls who were in their first season and not likely to obtain dancing partners on their own because they lacked pedigree or were pretty enough but lacked an attractive dowry. The Almack’s patronesses took their duty to young girls in their first or second season very seriously, and in every ball the two in charge could be seen walking about, matching young ladies to reluctant young men.
Sebastian seldom if ever glanced toward the wallflower area, but now he regretted it. The moment he gave his gloved hand to this girl and led her to the dance floor, it was all he could do to keep his balance until they began their waltz.
Her touch was so sensual, he felt her hand not on his but directly on his groin. A hot frisson coursed along his nerve endings, and his whole body shuddered in anticipation. If he felt so much with only the soft touch of her hand on his, what would he feel with her in his arms?
Suddenly realizing where his mind was going, he shook off such outlandish thoughts. He was a bit foxed and couldn’t even remember what Lady Jersey said the girl’s name was during the introduction. He should have skipped that stop at Rothyn’s townhouse, as they’d dipped into bottles of claret before coming here.
Of course, it was turning out amazingly easy to keep his promise to his sister Camie. One dance with a wallflower debutante? Why this beautiful girl lacked dance partners was beyond his understanding. She was as lovely and as rare as an orchid, and her scent intoxicated him even more than the claret.
He had never felt such jumping sensations as he was now feeling while waltzing with her. Her eyes as she looked at him were sparkling blue aquamarines, and the tingling ripple the mere touch of her hand had started now throbbed along his groin so that his hand tightened on hers even as his breeches tightened. He quickly forced his eyes away from her lithe form, for just a quick glance at her curves unhinged him.
They swayed around the vast ballroom, and the lights from a thousand candles and the twirling couples confused him. The lovely girl in his arms became three identical girls who twirled round and round like the racing dials of a mad clock. He heard the waning notes of the waltz as it was coming to its end and felt so dizzy that, had he not held her, he would have lost his balance. He looked into the girl’s beautiful eyes and his gaze drifted downward. Her breasts, the tops of them peeking alluringly from her filmy gown, were so fetching that he wondered when he had ever seen a better pair. There was a small dark mole on her left breast, and a tiny rosebud by it, and so compelling was the tiny beauty mark that he was hypnotized.
The music had stopped. He looked into the girl’s lovely blue eyes and wondered why they were wide with alarm, and her voice was loud and clear in the silence that followed the conclusion of the waltz.
Oh!” she exclaimed.
Her hand on his shoulder slipped away as she fell to the floor, her crumpling body settling softly on his feet. Sebastian leaned down toward her prone body.
After a few seconds, the girl opened her eyes. A crowd had rushed forward, and there was a large circle of people around her and Sebastian, three or four deep, looking down with concern. And silence, as everyone just stared.
The girl was helped up by two gentlemen while Lord Corville continued to stare, speechless.
Lady Jersey broke the silence. “What happened to you, my dear?”
A twittering of exclamations rose like a deafening wave, and then sudden silence fell again as the crowd waited in suspense for the girl’s reply.
The girl spoke slowly but clearly, so that everyone heard her words. She looked directly into Lord Corville’s eyes and said, “Lord Corville touched me inappropriately.”
