A modern love story. A Sweeter Romance. Women's fiction

Read the teaser

At work the next day, she hoped she’d run into August. She couldn’t seek him out for any reason. Their jobs were completely different.

Millie went home that evening feeling dejected.

A whole week passed in which she didn’t see August around at all, not even in the staff kitchen where everyone made coffee or tea, and she began to wonder if he’d left the company.

During that week, she hadn’t offered her husband affection, and he hadn’t noticed. That’s okay. I suddenly don’t want the lukewarm, half-hearted hug or non-kiss from him.

Another week went by. New Year had followed Christmas. Millie saw nothing of August, but the memory of his kisses faded only a little. She had given up hope of ever seeing him again, when, one evening after staying later than usual at the office, she was in the underground car park, and there he was.

He called her name. “Millie.” She turned to it.

They walked quickly toward each other, but then a step away stopped.

August spoke first. “I never see you at work. We never run into one another. It’s bizarre. I hoped to. I hope every day I’ll see you making coffee or something.”

Millie smiled. “Me too, August, I even thought you might have left the company.”

August took the step to be closer to her.

“Come for a drink, coffee, or something before you go home. I know a place with car parking not so far away. Follow me?”

Millie nodded at August’s suggestion.

From the author

Millie Reinvented is based on a true story about a lovely, lonely woman, who many years ago shared her despair over her marriage. She talked about her husband and the things he did as she wandered around the huge store where I worked. I sensed she needed to tell someone.

I wished I could help her, but I could only listen.

She bought a small statue—lovers kissing, before she left.

Peter’s behavior is based on this woman’s experience.

I hope that she escaped the way Millie does in this story. I hope she found her August and is right now living her happy ending.

Kick back with a teaser

Two strong male hands grasped her waist, lifted her, and set her on her feet. A deep, attractive voice asked, “Are you okay?—You’re not. You’re freezing and your shoe is broken. Let me help you. I’m here for you.” He held her shoulders, taking some of her weight as Simi limped to face her rescuer.

She looked up and into the eyes of a gorgeous man. Strands of his thick dark hair glistened in the light, thrown off by the strings of fairy lights threaded through the branches of the trees lining this part of the sidewalk. The sleet lent a sheen to these strands and lit him up as if he, too, was a Christmas decoration. Simi gazed at him. She drank in the perfect features of his face. Her eyes dipped to take in his obviously muscled body under his clothes. His overcoat hung open over a black suit. He wore a gleaming white shirt and a black bow tie. He’s perfect.

“I’m fine, thank you,” her voice scratched out.

He gave her a look just short of amused, but definitely disbelieving.

“I know otherwise. Please, it’s Christmas. Let me be here for you.”

The sincerity in his voice soothed her. Trepidation left her, replaced by hope. Bizarre, considering he could be a murderer. She hopped a step.

The gorgeous man stooped and pulled the heel from the paver crack. He grinned at her mischievously and put it in his pocket.

Simi let her shoulder bag dangle from her arm and tried to walk with one foot five-and-a-half inches higher than the other.

The delicious man held her arm gently. He took her bag and slung it over his shoulder.

“I’ll carry that. Put your arm around my waist and lean on me.” He slipped his arm around her shoulders.

She did as he asked. His hard body under her arm comforted her. Simi tried another step. It was still a limp, but suddenly amused, she laughed. She looked up into his handsome face.

“If I’m going to be hanging onto you, I should know your name.”

“Jason. My name’s Jason, and you’re…?”

Simi was lost in the sound of his voice and the flow of delicious tingles down her body as his arm tightened around her. She whispered, “Simi.”

He smiled, his eyes alight with emotion. “That’s a beautiful name. A lovely, soft name for a beautiful girl.”

A little alarm bell went off for Simi. Isn’t that a little too charming? Maybe he is a murderer trying to lull me into trusting him. “Look buddy, don’t bother trying flattery on me.”

His smile widened. Crinkles appeared at the corners of his eyes. He laughed and then shook his head. “Don’t be afraid. I’m not here to hurt you, quite the opposite, and you are beautiful.”

The wind whipped strands of her hair across her face and she limped along. “I don’t have far to go now. I can manage. You must have somewhere to be.”

Jason sighed deeply.

The sound traveled over Simi in a wave. It brought a wash of regret that she’d suggested this gorgeous man stop helping her and leave. She looked up into his eyes and saw sadness.

“I have nowhere to be. It’s Christmas. I’m free to be with you if you want me. I’m no threat. I’d love to help you…at least to your door, Simi.”

Her longing to have a man like him with her for comfort, help, and maybe more seeded acceptance and trust in her heart. She gripped his overcoat as she leaned into him again, trying to excuse her outburst about flattery. “I’m not used to knights in shining armor.” She limped off again and he walked with her, his arm around her, almost lifting her from her feet. His pace slowed to give her time to accommodate the lack of a heel on one shoe.

“I’ve not been that for a long time.” His murmured words brought a smile to her lips and she took a deep breath, deciding to talk with him as they made their way to her apartment. “Have you been to a party or something?”

“I’ve been—” He told her, but dipped his head as the sleet became heavier.

Simi didn’t hear the end of his sentence. It was whirled away by the weather’s onslaught. The wind made the icy rain slant into her overcoat collar. She cuddled against him.

Jason stopped walking. He gave her a gentle smile. “We’ll be frozen and saturated by the time we get to your place.” Then he picked her up in his strong arms and cradled her to his body. “I’ll carry you.”

As he enveloped her in his arms, her face rested on his chest. A vague fragrance of pine needles and trees drifted around her. His arm under her thighs warmed her. His arm crushing her to his muscled chest reminded her of the dream she’d had. He was every bit as gorgeous and sexy as the man in her dream. Simi’s heart filled up with hope. Whatever he was offering this night she would take. This was the most comforted and cared for she’d felt in a very long time. As Jason walked with her, she snuggled into his aura. He exuded masculinity, strength, protection, sex. It felt good. “Thank you. My place is at the end of this street.”

From Elodie,

My hero, Jason Chandler, doesn’t know what he is. Maybe an angel, or a spirit, he only knows he’s given assignments to fulfill by the enigmatic higher powers of the universe. This assignment is different, and when he finds himself materialize beside Simi, my heroine, he’s instantly hopeful that his lonely existence is about to change.  With an HEA , this story is full of love and magic.

Read Jason's explanation of what he is to himself (book teaser)

Jason followed as she went to the dining room.

She put the candlestick in the middle with a happy sigh.

He smiled at her. “How can I help?”

Simi opened the door on a low cabinet. She took out rolled, fine wooden-slat, place mats and unfurled each on the table. “Talk to me. Tell me about yourself. Where do you work? Where do you live? I want to know all about you, or at least something.” She laughed then.

The sound took away the fear that spiked up Jason’s spine when she asked the specific questions about him. I’ll tell her what I can without frightening her away. He opted for that.

“I have assignments from a—a group that are designed to help people...solve problems. I live around here.” The ether wasn’t so far above the terrestrial sphere, scientifically, and mystical enough to be almost everywhere, so that was okay to say. I can’t say I only work at Christmas, though. I can’t say I’m some sort of spirit doing penance for dabbling in magic, can I?

Simi placed cut crystal, long-stemmed glasses on each mat. She grinned at him. “Are you a social worker?”

Jason shook his head.

Simi considered for a few moments. “You’re a company troubleshooter. No wonder you’re a little cagey about that. Ours is a shark. He can put a positive light on the trickiest complaint.”

“Oh, no, that’s not how I operate. I really help, even if it’s just for a short time.” That much was true. He’d brought comfort, strokes of good luck, better outlooks, the coincidence of friends meeting lost friends or family, the avoidance of an accident not meant to happen, although never what he’d brought Simi, never sex and … and love.

Dark #fantasy #romance Forever Blue . Read a #teaser #Halloween reads. What secret must Jasper hide and what’s the strange blue dust that turns up on Claudie’s patio?

When she arrived home, he was in his usual place on the patio. It was an exceptionally dark night. Dense cloud covered the moon. Rain fell in huge drops. He heard the Land Rover long before she pulled into her drive and parked. Jasper enjoyed Claudie’s humming, as she went through her front door. If she had been to a hide somewhere other than in the local area, she was home early. Maybe because of the weather. He listened to the sound of her making a hot drink in her kitchen. He smiled. He couldn’t stop smiling. The sound of her voice flowed over him. It trickled into his mind and heart, lifting his spirits, and giving him hope.

Jasper stood silently by the holly tree and close to the biggest potted trees, near one of them clipped into a ball shape. He liked that. When the conservatory door opened and Claudie stepped out, he froze in the darkness and the shadow of the holly. The house security lights had recently failed on that side of the wall, but she was silhouetted in the glow from the working lights on the other side of the door.

Jasper watched her sniff the night air. Her expression worried him. She looked puzzled. Then she was walking toward him. He tried to melt further into the shadows.

She picked up a garden fork that leaned against the house wall and held it out in front of her. The row of metal prongs looked lethal.

“I can see you. Who are you? What do you want? You have ten seconds to beat it, buddy, and then I scream for my husband.”

Jasper’s surprise pinned him to the spot. She can see me. How is that possible? Unless, unless, she is the one.

He saw her hesitate. He knew there was no husband, and now she must be deciding he’d called her bluff. If she could see him, then maybe she’d be able to hear him too.

“I’m sorry. I was only taking shelter from the rain for a few minutes. I don’t mean any harm.” He held out his hands by his sides in a gesture meant to convey that he was harmless.

She raised the garden fork a little as if his movement scared her.

He bent his head and his shoulders drooped. “I’m really no threat. I’ll leave, if you let me pass.”

She put down the garden fork. “What are you doing out here? There’s nothing around for miles. The road leads nowhere.”

Jasper edged sideways to leave. His thoughts tumbled in his head. A weight of sadness threatened to force tears from his eyes. He could only just bear the thought that she was afraid of him. He stuttered. “I … I’m lost.”

Claudie looked at him intently. A frown creased her forehead.

“I can call you a cab. Where are you going?”

He shook his head. “No. I’ll walk back along the lane to the road.” Jasper moved, this time more quickly.

Claudie stepped back, but called. “Wait. You’re drenched. I can’t see anyone just wander off into the night like that.”

Jasper’s heart contracted. He wished he’d met her in the day, on the road, or somewhere she wouldn’t decide he was a threat. She could be the one and he loved her. His stomach ached with sorrow. He turned and in a burst of speed, he fled.

A mist of spruce perfume hit Claudie and she stared after him.

He stopped at the bottom of the garden and looked back. She was inside, locking the door and he could see she still held the garden fork leaning it against her hip in readiness. She’d taken it in for a weapon. He shook his head. How strange, he’d watched her all summer, and she’d shown no sign of knowing he was there. What alerted her to my presence this night? He felt desolate. He leapt the box that hedged the back of her garden and ran the length of the field.

Read a teaser

He’d not tuned out yet to the din of humanity, and just as he thought about doing that, he heard the heartbeat. Why it called to him out of all the others he could hear, he didn’t know, but it did. The swish of blood, the sudden onslaught of female pheromones put a tingle of desire up his spine. He looked around for the source, and there she was.

Sascha’s entire body clenched with sexual need. Longed for sensations coursed through his thighs, his balls, and his cock stirred deliciously. The young woman walking past him filled his head with pictures of kisses. Her scent infused him with yearning for soft skin under his fingertips, a woman’s cream on his lips, and his tongue against her clit. Sascha stood. He stepped into her path.

She gazed up at him and in that second he wanted her so badly, he thought he would fall down.

Sascha’s expression softened. He looked into her eyes and saw desire.

Her eyes were dark with it.

Her scent flooded over him.

She pulsed with sexual need that matched his.

Sascha felt the seconds fall away as they gazed at each other in the silent dance of communication between strangers who suddenly connect on that deep mysterious level.

She must have become embarrassed because she suddenly smiled in a self-deprecating way, her hand fluttering to her cheek, and down, to smooth the blue velvet dress she wore.

Sascha couldn’t let this meeting pass.

“Hi.” It was all he could muster. His voice throaty with emotion, he smiled sincerely at the young woman.

She smiled at him, quickly, and answered, “Hi,” but then she walked on, around him.

Sascha turned to watch her go. Is she with someone? Is she with a man? His thoughts churned.

She greeted two other young women who sat at a table on the far edge of the dance floor.

Sascha listened.

“Hi, Melissa, you’re late again. You can spring for drinks. We’ll have cherry vodkas.”

“I worked late. Okay.”

Melissa turned away and wove through the crowd to the bar.

Sascha got there before her. He stood close and soaked up her presence. He stared ahead through the strangely bronze tinted mirror behind the bar.

She looked at him in the mirror, her expression conveying interest, encouragement.

Fuck, I’m so out of practice. I have no idea how to do this. Sascha slumped in pain. He left the bar and the nightclub in a haze of regret.

The soft pad of his boots echoed back into his sensitive ears as he walked down the alley. He wanted that girl so much. He couldn’t just leave. He glanced around for observers and finding none, he leapt to the balcony of the nightclub. The club management opened the doors on summer nights such as this. People made their way up to the mezzanine floor above the dance area where they could watch the moving crowd below and talk. This generally happened around one in the morning when the club was full to the gills and pungent with bodies and drink.

This midnight a couple lay entwined in each other’s arms on one of the black faux-leather sofas and a solitary man chatted to the barista at the coffee counter there. Sascha entered from the balcony casually. He walked to lean against the smoked glass and black wrought iron safety barrier around the edge of the mezzanine. Eagle eyed, he sought out the girl whose heartbeat thumped through his chest like the deep base of a rock tune through a high volume speaker. There she was. Sascha sighed with satisfaction.

Get your vampire fix with mysterious, sexy Dhruv…

Dhruv picked up his coffee and for an instant, she thought he would drink. He didn’t. He put the cup back down as if his thoughts had interrupted his intention to drink.

“Do you ever have a free night, a night when you aren’t working here?”

She was surprised and delighted by his question. He was going to ask her out.

“I can take time if I want to.” She waited as he stared at her. He licked his lips. She wanted to put her mouth against his and have her lips licked too.

“Could you leave early tonight? It would be great to take a walk with you. I live opposite the park, the one with the duck pond. It’s very beautiful in the moonlight. I love the night. It’s so calm and supportive.” It was the most he had ever said to her in one go. Daisy smiled, enchanted by his low voice and graceful words.

“I can leave early, and I’d love to walk with you.” She didn’t give one thought to the fact that she knew very little about him. The spell of his beauty, his husky voice, and the lure of being alone with him drove any safety considerations from her mind.

He had never smiled, but now he did, and it lit his face.

“Soon, let’s go soon.” His eyes didn’t leave hers. Daisy thought she might vault the counter and run away with him right then.

“They’re amusing, yes?”

Anna turned to the voice. It belonged to an astonishingly good-looking man, who smiled at her as he indicated the corkboard full of notes with an elegant wave. She returned his smile. “I guess so. What is the sin bin?”

He took a breath and his eyes twinkled. “The pretty chest at the club door for those patrons who find the experience of the upstairs bar so overwhelming they must tell about it, and for those performers who wish to rid themselves of the worry about how they might have affected someone else’s lives. Of course, sometimes it’s for showoffs to trumpet their conquests.”

Anna stared into the intriguing silver eyes of this man. She thought she saw a glimmer of ruby there and drew back from him. At arm’s length, they looked more normal, and Anna attributed the ruby glimmer to reflection from the bar.

“Did those things actually happen?” She asked the silver-eyed man, unable to stop the horrified fascination that the declarations sparked.

He raised his eyebrows slightly and held his hands up. “Ah, that’s the mystery, is it not?”

Anna nodded slightly, guessing that he wouldn’t tell her any more. She looked along the bar counter hoping to catch Ethan’s eye.

The man beside her was close again. “Let me get you a drink. What will it be?”

Anna decided that might be the way to have Ethan nearer if he came to serve the man.

“Thank you, that’s kind of you. I’d love a martini. My name’s Anna—Anna Prideaux.”

He smiled. “Remy Dubois—very pleased to meet you.”

Before she had a chance to think about it, he’d taken her hand, and kissed her palm.

A shock of pleasure ran along her wrist and up her arm. Worried by the strong reaction she pulled her hand away, although she couldn’t take her eyes from Remy’s handsome face.

Ethan’s voice cut through her daze and she cringed at his having found her mesmerized by Remy’s silver gaze.

“Hi, Remy, what can I get you?”

Chapter One

“Watch out, Nate. That thing’s lethal.” Evan burst out laughing as the chainsaw blade bounced off the tree stump and onto the grass, forcing his friend to cling on tight to the handle.

“Fucking thing has a mind of its own.” Nate turned the chainsaw off and laid it down on the gravel path. “I reckon the trunk’s short enough now to dig the roots out.” He picked up a spade that leaned against a neighboring tree.

Evan grinned. “Maybe we need to take the two remaining branches off.” He ran a hand over his forehead and took off the clear framed, safety glasses he wore. After tossing them down on the grass, he pulled off his T-shirt. Sweat trickled down between his muscled shoulders, and he wiped the back of his neck with his shirt, a frown creasing his forehead. “It’s already hot. Let’s get this finished.” He strode around Nate to the path, and retrieved the chainsaw. Within a few moments, the tree stump stood devoid of the remaining branches.

Nate shook his head at Evan. “You should be wearing the glasses and the gloves I gave you.”

Evan grunted. “It’s done. Don’t fuss.”

Nate grinned broadly at his friend’s gung-ho dismissal. “Hey, it’s not fussing. A flying sharp splinter could take your eye out.”

Evan’s returning grin held affection. “Yeah, I know, I just wanted it done.” He placed the power tool on the path and picked up one of the bottles of water standing next to Nate’s supply of work gloves and safety glasses. He poured some over his face and then took a drink. “Warm.” He grimaced at Nate, put the bottle down, and picked up a spade.

Nate shrugged and then drove the edge of his spade into the soil around the tree.

Evan joined him digging silently at the base of the tree stump.

The tree grew on the edge of their garden, and they’d had complaints from people because it dropped branches on the sidewalk. Nate had dutifully hired a tree doctor who discovered disease caused by a virulent beetle pest. The prognosis for the tree was bad. It needed cutting down, and the tree doctor informed Nate they were lucky the other trees hadn’t contracted the beetle.

The Saturday morning sun blazed in the June sky. Heat shimmered off the sidewalk. Nate and Evan were the only people out in their front yards. The noise of their work tools were the only sounds, as not even the seagulls that often wheeled overhead ventured from the cool of the ocean yet.

Nate and Evan’s house was one of the largest in the rows of three story houses built along the river in a modern development unimaginatively called Riverside Mews. Narrow lanes that led to the river path separated the rows. Somehow, patches of white sand always settled on the paths, though the nearest beach was a mile away. Each house had its own river access, through a gate at the end of the back yard to a riverbank public path, but there was no boat access, no jetties. The public path wound along by the river from the seaside town close by and on into the countryside. The house to the right of Nate and Evan’s place was occupied by a small family, but the house to the left had been empty and for sale all year.

The roar of a large van engine broke the hot, morning silence as it turned into the street and thumped over each speed hump in the road, until it drew up in front of the empty house next door.

Nate gave the van a cursory glance, but Evan leaned on his spade and watched as two men leapt out of each side of the van. He read the name of a removal firm and their logo emblazoned across the side of the vehicle and discovered it was from a city in the north of the state. It piqued his interest, so he continued with his unashamed staring.

The men who’d alighted from the cab walked to the back of the van and opened its double doors, just as a pale blue, old model Mustang drove up and parked a short distance away.

A young woman got out of the Mustang.

Evan liked her shapely body right away. He straightened up for a better view and admired the swing of her hips. Without taking his eyes off her, he murmured to Nate. “Check her out.”

Nate stopped hacking at the sun-baked soil around the remaining tree trunk and looked around. He gazed at the young woman for a few seconds and then turned back to his job. “Sexy. Don’t stare.”

Evan resumed digging, but he stole glances as the two workers unloaded the items from the removal van. When the young woman walked up her front path, Evan took in the attractive sight of her thighs in the cutoff jeans she wore, and then raised his gaze to her pretty face.

Her eyes met his.

Evan’s stomach muscles clenched. Surprise at the reaction in his gut and a shock of sexual attraction spiked through him.

The young woman’s expression held a hungry, lonely look that woke dormant emotions deep inside him.

She’d been halfway down the street, when Annabel saw the two guys working in their front yard. She took in the muscled torso of the guy who openly stared at the moving van, and the hard bottom of the guy digging. They’re yummy.

Edgy with pent up sexual energy, Annabel longed for a man in her life. The summer heat didn’t help. She eyed every guy with his shirt off. Every couple kissing on the beach or in the park as she walked caught her attention. In the six months since she’d split with her then boyfriend, she missed sex the most. She didn’t miss his moods and his lazy ass around her apartment. She didn’t miss waiting up for him at night, hoping he’d make love to her, only to find he’d sleep on the couch. When he’d confessed he’d found someone else, a kind of relief had flooded her. She wanted something different, real love, a passion so consuming she’d be rocked by it.

Annabel checked out the two gorgeous guys working in their garden again. She knew “bare chest guy” said something about her to “gorgeous denim clad ass” because he immediately looked around at her. She gazed back at the one whose admiring stare sent waves of pleasure through her as she went up the path to her new house. A huge pull of attraction to the men startled her, and as she opened her front door, she considered them. They’re so hot, wonder if they’re single. Maybe they don’t even live there. Maybe they’re gardeners. I hope not. I hope they live there. Even if we’re only friends, they’re someone beautiful to look at.

Her house waited cool and quiet. She raced through it, relishing the space, and the white walls where the sunlight bounced back and dazzled her as she pulled up the roller blinds. She opened the patio doors and dashed out, down the path, and through the gate to the riverside. The water, dappled in brilliant greens, sailed by, looking cool and deep. The river widened there on its way to the sea, and across it lay open countryside. Annabel had loved the house as soon as she saw it. She loved the street, the funny little access lanes, the palm trees in her back yard, and close to the lovely seaside town where she’d found her new job, the house exuded a welcoming atmosphere. Everything was perfect.

Annabel didn’t have much furniture and instructed the removal men about where to place it. She’d dropped into the place a couple of days before and turned on the built-in Westinghouse, piled bottled water in there and two six packs of beer, and then looked out at the river. The street had been silent, except for bird calls, and she’d assumed all the residents were at work. She was on vacation. Annabel went to the fridge and took out two bottles of water and two beers. She met the removal men in the hall as they placed the last item of her furniture there, an old, solid oak hall table.

“I guess you two could use a drink.” She held the bottles up against her chest, and as she handed them to the men, damp patches appeared on her T-shirt from the condensation on the bottles.

The younger of the two men gawked at her nipples peaking in the dampness and the cool of the air-con.

Annabel folded her arms over her breasts as she realized this. She gave them a polite smile. “Thank you. You’ve done a good job.” She directed a question at the removal man who’d taken charge of the proceedings, “Anything for me to sign?”

“I need to get the paperwork from the van.” They both turned to leave.

She followed them out of the door. As she walked down her path, she glanced over at the neighboring garden. Her breathing quickened at the sight of the gorgeous guys, both without shirts now, as they tugged at the tree stump. She hurriedly signed the form the removal man handed to her on a clipboard, and remained on the sidewalk as he and his assistant got in the van and started the engine. The van pulled away from the curb.

Annabel sauntered back to her front door. The noise of the van engine must have caught the attention of her possible neighbors. They both stopped work to look. She took the opportunity. With a smile, Annabel stepped across her lawn and crossed the narrow path to stand a short distance from the two men working in their garden.

“Hi, I’m Annabel, I’ve just moved in.” She waved at her new house unnecessarily, and continued, “Do you live here, are we neighbors?” As she said this, her gaze traveled over the naked torsos of first one man and then the other. Their faded and ripped jeans rode low on their hips. The taller man’s jeans hung especially low and a hint of his dark pubic hair showed. Annabel could hardly take her eyes off his hard stomach. Licking her lips, she tore her gaze away to look into the other man’s eyes as he shielded them from the sun with a gloved hand.

He’s lovely. Holy hell they’re gorgeous, both of them. I couldn’t choose one. I wouldn’t … it’d be both … if possible…Annabel waited for an answer, heart pounding. Being so close to such perfect specimens of manhood played havoc with her condensation-primed nipples, and she crossed her arms to hide the obvious hard peaks.

One of the men answered. His eyes held a smile, his voice, deep and breathtakingly sexy.
“Hi, yes, we live here. I’m Evan, this is Nate,” and he gestured at his companion.
Nate took off his work glove and offered his hand to Annabel.

She shook his hand, looking into his blue-gray eyes. Annabel soaked up the texture of Nate’s skin and the sexual heat in his expression. She enjoyed the quick clench that occurred in her pussy as he smiled invitingly. He’s delicious.

“Hi Annabel, it’s good to meet you.”

Then Evan offered his hand.

She left Nate’s sensual grasp reluctantly and put her hand into Evan’s. He cradled it, and his fingertips skimmed the inside of her wrist. The effect was so sexy her pussy drenched her panties. Fuck, I’d like to drag him down onto the grass and do wild things. It made her smile a little, when the thought, with both of them, popped into her head.

Evan gently let go of her hand as he spoke. “We didn’t think the house would ever be sold. These places go quickly usually, but that one lingered all year.”

Unable to help herself, Annabel stared wistfully at his lips and then into his eyes. Are they single? She questioned inwardly, but said, “I can’t think why it took so long to sell, but I’m glad it did, so that I could buy it. I love the place.”

Evan smiled. “We love it here. Close to our work, close to beaches, great place. If you need a hand with moving in let us know.”

A thrill of pleasure coursed through her at his kind offer. “Everything heavy is in place. The removal guys did that. I just have boxes to unpack. It’s a warm day. Do you want to come over for a cold drink when you’ve finished that job?” She nodded at the tree stump. “I’ll probably know if there’s anything I need help with by then, and need a break. Thank you so much for offering.” She glanced at Nate as she said this to make sure he knew she meant them both.

Nate answered. “Love to.”

She smiled at him. He’s so lovely. Both men had dark hair and blue eyes. Are they brothers? It’s too soon to ask. “Great, I’ll let you get on with digging out the tree.”

She left them and crossed the path to her house. Her heart beating fast, elated by the encounter, she sighed with longing. They’re both so attractive and seriously sexy. Imagine making out with one of them, or both. I definitely couldn’t choose which one. I’m desperate to kiss Evan or Nate, yeah … desperate.

Evan watched her walk away, and when she’d gone into her house, he let out a low whistle.

“She flirted with me. Did you see that, Nate? She kept looking at me and licking her lips.”

Nate stared at him for a moment. “She looked right into my eyes with meaning when I said we’d go around for a drink. I actually felt it in my balls. She’s hot. I might ask her out.”

A twinge of annoyance put a fleeting frown on Evan’s face. “I might ask her out.” Then he softened. “We’ll have to share her.”

With a laugh, Nate gave him a playful thump on the arm. “Let’s get this tree stump dealt with, and then we’ll go around to her place, and make ourselves indispensable.”

Evan accepted what Nate said, but as he dug, he determined that at the first moment an opportunity arose, he’d ask Annabel out. She sparked something in him. A deep need floated in his heart, and it made him want to see her again soon. Just set eyes on her.
