Old world #vampire looking for love #Halloween read #paranormalromance #teaser from The Black Lion

Read a teaser

He’d not tuned out yet to the din of humanity, and just as he thought about doing that, he heard the heartbeat. Why it called to him out of all the others he could hear, he didn’t know, but it did. The swish of blood, the sudden onslaught of female pheromones put a tingle of desire up his spine. He looked around for the source, and there she was.

Sascha’s entire body clenched with sexual need. Longed for sensations coursed through his thighs, his balls, and his cock stirred deliciously. The young woman walking past him filled his head with pictures of kisses. Her scent infused him with yearning for soft skin under his fingertips, a woman’s cream on his lips, and his tongue against her clit. Sascha stood. He stepped into her path.

She gazed up at him and in that second he wanted her so badly, he thought he would fall down.

Sascha’s expression softened. He looked into her eyes and saw desire.

Her eyes were dark with it.

Her scent flooded over him.

She pulsed with sexual need that matched his.

Sascha felt the seconds fall away as they gazed at each other in the silent dance of communication between strangers who suddenly connect on that deep mysterious level.

She must have become embarrassed because she suddenly smiled in a self-deprecating way, her hand fluttering to her cheek, and down, to smooth the blue velvet dress she wore.

Sascha couldn’t let this meeting pass.

“Hi.” It was all he could muster. His voice throaty with emotion, he smiled sincerely at the young woman.

She smiled at him, quickly, and answered, “Hi,” but then she walked on, around him.

Sascha turned to watch her go. Is she with someone? Is she with a man? His thoughts churned.

She greeted two other young women who sat at a table on the far edge of the dance floor.

Sascha listened.

“Hi, Melissa, you’re late again. You can spring for drinks. We’ll have cherry vodkas.”

“I worked late. Okay.”

Melissa turned away and wove through the crowd to the bar.

Sascha got there before her. He stood close and soaked up her presence. He stared ahead through the strangely bronze tinted mirror behind the bar.

She looked at him in the mirror, her expression conveying interest, encouragement.

Fuck, I’m so out of practice. I have no idea how to do this. Sascha slumped in pain. He left the bar and the nightclub in a haze of regret.

The soft pad of his boots echoed back into his sensitive ears as he walked down the alley. He wanted that girl so much. He couldn’t just leave. He glanced around for observers and finding none, he leapt to the balcony of the nightclub. The club management opened the doors on summer nights such as this. People made their way up to the mezzanine floor above the dance area where they could watch the moving crowd below and talk. This generally happened around one in the morning when the club was full to the gills and pungent with bodies and drink.

This midnight a couple lay entwined in each other’s arms on one of the black faux-leather sofas and a solitary man chatted to the barista at the coffee counter there. Sascha entered from the balcony casually. He walked to lean against the smoked glass and black wrought iron safety barrier around the edge of the mezzanine. Eagle eyed, he sought out the girl whose heartbeat thumped through his chest like the deep base of a rock tune through a high volume speaker. There she was. Sascha sighed with satisfaction.

“From the minute I met out hero Sascha, I was intrigued and a bit in love. He has an old world quality that endears you, and when you discover his secret… you understand why. Melissa has her own mysteries. Independent and feisty, she has an instant connection with Sascha. They come together in a dazzling display of lust, possibility, and emotion. Get your vampire fix with mysterious, sexy Dhruv…

Dhruv picked up his coffee and for an instant, she thought he would drink. He didn’t. He put the cup back down as if his thoughts had interrupted his intention to drink.

“Do you ever have a free night, a night when you aren’t working here?”

She was surprised and delighted by his question. He was going to ask her out.

“I can take time if I want to.” She waited as he stared at her. He licked his lips. She wanted to put her mouth against his and have her lips licked too.

“Could you leave early tonight? It would be great to take a walk with you. I live opposite the park, the one with the duck pond. It’s very beautiful in the moonlight. I love the night. It’s so calm and supportive.” It was the most he had ever said to her in one go. Daisy smiled, enchanted by his low voice and graceful words.

“I can leave early, and I’d love to walk with you.” She didn’t give one thought to the fact that she knew very little about him. The spell of his beauty, his husky voice, and the lure of being alone with him drove any safety considerations from her mind.

He had never smiled, but now he did, and it lit his face.

“Soon, let’s go soon.” His eyes didn’t leave hers. Daisy thought she might vault the counter and run away with him right then.

“They’re amusing, yes?”

Anna turned to the voice. It belonged to an astonishingly good-looking man, who smiled at her as he indicated the corkboard full of notes with an elegant wave. She returned his smile. “I guess so. What is the sin bin?”

He took a breath and his eyes twinkled. “The pretty chest at the club door for those patrons who find the experience of the upstairs bar so overwhelming they must tell about it, and for those performers who wish to rid themselves of the worry about how they might have affected someone else’s lives. Of course, sometimes it’s for showoffs to trumpet their conquests.”

Anna stared into the intriguing silver eyes of this man. She thought she saw a glimmer of ruby there and drew back from him. At arm’s length, they looked more normal, and Anna attributed the ruby glimmer to reflection from the bar.

“Did those things actually happen?” She asked the silver-eyed man, unable to stop the horrified fascination that the declarations sparked.

He raised his eyebrows slightly and held his hands up. “Ah, that’s the mystery, is it not?”

Anna nodded slightly, guessing that he wouldn’t tell her any more. She looked along the bar counter hoping to catch Ethan’s eye.

The man beside her was close again. “Let me get you a drink. What will it be?”

Anna decided that might be the way to have Ethan nearer if he came to serve the man.

“Thank you, that’s kind of you. I’d love a martini. My name’s Anna—Anna Prideaux.”

He smiled. “Remy Dubois—very pleased to meet you.”

Before she had a chance to think about it, he’d taken her hand, and kissed her palm.

A shock of pleasure ran along her wrist and up her arm. Worried by the strong reaction she pulled her hand away, although she couldn’t take her eyes from Remy’s handsome face.

Ethan’s voice cut through her daze and she cringed at his having found her mesmerized by Remy’s silver gaze.

“Hi, Remy, what can I get you?”

He hides from the love he feels #vampireromance in #midweektease @evernightpub

Looking back at A Little Mysterious this week

He’d been sent off course…he thought he was lost…until he found Daisy.

His vampire abilities were special. He belonged to an elite group. Moving home, they are set off course by a storm that lands Dhruv alone, hungry, and desperate in a strange town.
A story of lust, love, and coincidence

Read the midweek teaser

They lay there in the damp grass with the smell of wet vegetation and the occasional sound of a bird fidgeting in the leaves of the trees.
“I think I could be falling in love with you.” He felt her words spear his heart. She had said them softly between kisses. He took his lips away from hers. The gentle way she held him made him pulse with emotion close to the one he felt when he thought about his lost clan members. He closed his eyes and rested his cheek against hers briefly.
“Don’t fall in love with me. I’m only passing through.” His voice cracked with emotion as he knelt, slid his cock from her, and stood to stare down at her.
He helped her up and found her clothes. He watched as she hurriedly put them on. He dragged on his jeans, T-shirt, and jacket.
“I don’t want to hurt you, Daisy. Don’t fall in love with me.” He knew he must have a mate somewhere else, waiting for him to find her.
He took her hand and led her out of the trees, over the bridge, and down the path.
“How do we get to your place from here?” He put his arm around her shoulders.
“It’s down the high street here as we exit the park, second left, and then left again. I’m sorry, about the ‘falling for you’ thing…I don’t mean to crowd you, or…”
He didn’t let her finish the apology because her voice was full of sadness.
He leaned over and kissed her mouth closed. He knew he felt something for her and hid from it. They walked to her place. He held her hand.
At the stairs to her apartment, he moved back a few steps.
“I’ll leave you here.” He wanted to warn her about the bite in case it scared her when she saw it. “I’m sorry. I sucked a bit too hard on the … love bite. There’s a big mark.” He gestured towards her neck, and saw her nod.
“It’ll be okay. Will you be at the bar tomorrow?”
He heard her voice hopeful and with a trace of worry. His heart, long dead, felt even more like a stone than usual. He knew she was worried that now they’d fucked she wouldn’t see him again. He wanted to see her again so badly it made him shake.

“I’ll be there.” His voice was a whisper and he turned. He walked quickly away. When he judged he was out of her line of vision, he burst into speed, and fled back to the sanctuary of the trees and the rustle of leaves in the dark.

Ball gowns and bite marks…

Mari Di Bartolo was a witch coming back to her roots in Salem. Juggling work and school, she is a woman on a mission until she is attacked one night after work and left for dead. Nevertheless, it’s not her new Sire that holds Mari’s attention, but the strange and enigmatic Fae with the golden green eyes. Full of mischief and mayhem, the night of the Vampire Ball is upon her and all that glitters may just be her teeth in the moonlight.

Darkness lurks in the shadows…
Fenris is the Captain of the Guard for the Queen of the Dark Court. For centuries he’s secured the barrier between the human world and Faery, part of a Protectorate that keeps humans blissfully ignorant of the beings hidden in their midst. But when another rogue wolf attack brings him to a crime scene, he remembers another girl with long dark hair and eyes that spoke to his soul. On a night filled with wild magic, there will be blood and some of it might just be given willingly.

Excerpt from Sanguine Shadows by Erzabet Bishop

Her eyes widened and her lips parted and he caught a glimpse of fang. “I…didn’t know you cared.”
“If I didn’t, why would I have convinced Roark to turn you?” He tugged her closer, the push of her breasts against his chest making it hard to concentrate on mere words. He’d known she was meant for him from the first second he’d seen her but he had to let Roark take her or risk her dying.
“You don’t know me. I was just a girl on the street. A human not worth your consideration.”
Fenris didn’t miss the hurt in her eyes. Perhaps he had been wrong leaving her alone. He’d been convinced he was right letting her assimilate unhindered into her new life. He also couldn’t fault her reasoning. She was right. They had no claim on one another, only an attraction that blazed to life in the most untenable of situations.
But she was wrong on one account. He had noticed her before-just not in a way he might have acted upon. Human and supernatural interaction was forbidden but he was unable to let her die. Not like that.
He wasn’t able to stop thinking about her and hadn’t since that night.
“I did notice you, witchling. How could I not?” He lifted a finger and traced the side of her face, his cock hardening at the moan that slipped unbidden from her lips. “You burn inside of me. Only I couldn’t act. Not until then. But I had to save you. To do anything else…” He let his voice trail off and watched her reaction.
Mari blinked and reached forward, pressing her lips to his. “It’s like a fire, isn’t it? A fire in the blood.”
“Oh Gods, yes.”

“Hey, Scarlett, you want to know why Wade’s scrutinizing every chick that passes?”
Scarlett perked up. “Why?”
Wade frowned at the incubus’s teasing tone. “What? I’m hungry.”
An amused smile spread across Somer’s handsome face. “Wade’s soulmate is supposed to be here tonight. Come on, Wade. You don’t really believe what that hag in Miami said, do you?”
“What hag?” Scarlett looked back and forth at the two of them.
Wade stuck his hands in his jean pockets and kicked at some litter on the ground. “No.”
It had been a mistake to pop into the psychic’s shop while he’d been with Somer at Ultra Music Festival in Miami. But, at the time, he’d been a little drunk and high himself because he’d fed on the blood of several people who’d been under the influence. Getting his fortune read had seemed like a bit of random fun. But when he’d sat down with the woman at her velvet-covered table and spread the colorful tarot cards out before her, her eyes and tone had pierced him with their gravity.
The candles in the sconces on the wall behind her had made her head seem like it was a floating oracle—probably because he’d been high—and it had mesmerized him. “You are going to have an unusually long life,” she’d said glancing at his palm. “And you will have no lack of good health.”
Somer, sitting next to him, had started sniggering at that point.
Then she looked at the cards on the table. “You’ve had a happy life so far, but you want more,” she said. “A while ago, something inside you led you to seek an unusual path. But this path is not as wonderful as you expected it to be. Something is missing.” Her long bony fingers had stroked at the images on the cards as though she were receiving messages by touching them.
Somer’s sniggering increased in volume, and the psychic had pinned him with her large milky eyes. In a low voice she’d asked him to wait outside because he was disrupting the flow of energy. He’d left without protest, and the psychic had proceeded with Wade’s reading. That’s when she’d gone into greater detail about his current life and his future. She’d commented on his constant travel, his small circle of tight-knit friends, and the loneliness he felt now. He hadn’t said a word to confirm or deny anything, but she’d been right. Vampires tended not to stay in any one place too long. And paranormal creatures tended to be loners, which meant it was difficult to make friends. At the time, Wade had been dwelling on the fact that the last remnants of his human life were fading away. The remainder of his human friends and relatives had died at the beginning of the year, and he no longer had anyone to look in on.
It wasn’t something he ever talked about, so having a stranger home in on his deepest feelings had made them even more real and depressing.
The psychic had swept away the first batch of cards and laid more down. She smiled as she gestured to a cluster of three with yellow backgrounds and pictures involving smiling people holding cups. “Things are going to change for the better. Happiness is on its way.”
He’d perked up at that and hope had streaked through him. He hadn’t realized how much he’d needed it until that moment, however ridiculous the whole thing was.
She flipped another card over. “You’re going to meet your soulmate.” She flipped two more cards over. “Yes. In June, at a place you’ve been before. There will be a lot of people there.”
There was only one place that could be. Here, at the twentieth anniversary of EDC. The reading had ended after that, and a stunned Wade had walked out and told Somer everything. Big mistake. He would never hear the end of it.
He knew the whole psychic thing was a bunch of bullshit. They were notorious liars. It was just that that damn jag of hope had taken root inside him. As the days had passed, curiosity had sprouted from it, one that demanded to be satisfied. And now he couldn’t stop himself from looking at all the girls the way he was. Would he know it was her on sight?
“What hag?” Scarlett asked again.
Somer filled her in than smirked and asked, “Do vampires even believe in love?”
Wade glared at him.
“Why wouldn’t they?” Scarlett said, her brown eyes filled with compassion. “Love is amazing. There’s no reason vampires should spend eternity without it. You just haven’t felt it yet, Somer.” Her face lit up as she said, “Someday you’ll see. It’s so powerful and freeing. Nick and I couldn’t imagine ever being apart. Even after all this time, it’s like I can still feel him.” A smile flashed across her pretty face. She was becoming more opaque, the wispy pale traces of her features were filling out and taking on healthy human colors. Her creamy skin was kissed with just a hint of sun, and her brown eyes were kind. Her clothing was the same outfit she’d died in, jean cutoff shorts and a fringed bikini top. She solidified every year on the anniversary of her death.
“So did this soothsayer give you any details at all? Did she describe the woman or tell you how you were going to meet?” Somer persisted.
“Nah, she just said I would meet my soulmate here.” Wade answered Somer’s teasing question for Scarlett’s benefit. Somer had only given her a short synopsis.
“What about a time? Did she give you a time?”
Scarlett shook her head. “You can be a real rascal sometimes, Somer.”
Wade’s fist streaked out in a blur to punch Somer in the gut.
“Oof!” Somer cringed back, hands pressed to his midsection. But the blow failed to wipe the smile off his face.
“No, she didn’t. Besides, if she was right—and I doubt that she is—I don’t have to look for her. She’ll come to me.” Wade shrugged. “Whatever. Let’s head over to Kinetic Field. DJ Momo is coming on soon.”
He turned and began walking, the other two trailing behind him. And, as the last glow of sunlight disappeared, Scarlett completed her shift into solid form.

Saturday Snippet

Daisy poured his coffee and took it to him.
He put out his hand and covered hers as she held the saucer to place the coffee in front of him. She felt the coolness of his skin and it made her feel feverish with desire. They locked eyes.
His gaze was filled with longing. Daisy knew she returned that look. She turned away, knowing that her nipples were hardening into peaks that might show through her light, cotton, work shirt. She felt a rush of dampness in her panties and her clit felt huge as her entire pussy clenched with desire.
She moved slowly away to another customer. All she could think of was having Dhruv’s cool hand between her legs, having those cool fingers stroke her clit, and then push deep so that she felt filled with them. The need was so strong she had to ask the next customers twice for their orders and apologize as her voice came out in a whisper.
Dhruv watched her with his ice blue eyes boring into her, until finally at almost ten, when the last of the food was served, and the kitchen began to wind down, she went to him.
“I can leave now as my shift ends at ten. Walk me home? It’s not far. I’d really like to talk with you, find out more about you. Dhruv, I…” She lost her nerve. It was okay because he nodded.
“Me too. I’ll walk with you.”
