Ava gazed at him. He still wasn’t wearing a shirt and as he pushed his hair away from his forehead, she experienced a wave of sexual longing so deep her gaze dipped to the junction of his thighs. Then her stare settled on the bottom of his hard, flat stomach where his jeans revealed a fine line of hair. Ava swallowed as she realized how low his jeans were cut.

Morgan liked the sound of her voice, its softness melted his heart, and his eyes darkened at her. Then warmth spread through him as he realized she was openly admiring his body. He grinned at her. “Do you walk here a lot? I haven’t seen you around, and yet I work in the forest often.”

Ava relaxed. She’d seen the big, black Land Rover with the National Forest Association logo on it. She smiled at Morgan in response.
“I walk here, maybe twice a week. I missed last week because of the rain. The path gets very muddy quickly.” She glanced around to the access road where Morgan had parked his vehicle. There were still large patches of mud.
Morgan stood. “You’re right, it does. It’s because there’s a tendency for the rainwater to stay pooled in places. The ground water table is a little variable in this forest.”
Ava watched him as he stood up and stepped closer. She’d never felt the kind of sexual attraction that flowed through her right then.

Morgan felt it too. The young woman before him radiated sexual need, and he soaked it up. He liked it a lot. He looked at her and he wanted to fold her in his arms and kiss her. It was a good feeling and one he hadn’t felt for a very long time.
They stared silently at each other.
Morgan thought nothing of being without his shirt.
Ava thought only of running her hands along his smooth skin, and perhaps even letting her fingertips follow that little line of fine dark hair that started low on his body and dipped into his jeans.

The Picnic By Elodie Parkes is a romantic story with a paranormal touch. Morgan spends his time in the forest taking care of trees. His love for the trees is beyond anything he can describe; he lives for the trees and the forest is his first love. That is, until one day he comes face to face with Eva. Eva loves walking in the woods, and does this at least twice a week. Her latest assignment is to save the forest from a company that wants to cut it down. She has to conduct an environmental survey and justify why the trees should not be cut down, so she sets off to the forest to gather evidence to use in her report. When she runs into Morgan in the woods, it is love and lust at first sight. They are pulled together by a force so strong that they cannot resist; the chemistry between them is undeniable. Now they must work together to save the forest that is so dear to Morgan. Their relationship grows stronger each passing day and they are deeply in love, but Eva is yet to discover a secret about Morgan's true personality and his connection to the forest.

Elodie Parkes tells a high-paced story about fate and love. The Picnic is a book about the love between two people that is so strong they cannot resist it. It is a novella with a captivating story about love between a beautiful woman and a man with a secret that he is afraid might drive her away. Elodie Parkes gets straight to the heart of the story and yet somehow gives you all the details. I loved reading it and did not stop until I was on the last page.
