Blurb:

Mitch “Gunner” Flannigan rules the Devil’s Outlaws with a firm hand, one trained by his stint in the SEALs, yet tempered by empathy for other vets. When a curvy redhead in Army fatigues snags his attention—and puts him in the line of fire—he’s torn between wanting to bury himself between her lush thighs and helping to ease her return to American soil.
The recent death of Shelby’s mother and her cousin’s terrorizing only adds to the PTSD hindering her return to civilian life. Flames ignite when she’s thrown into Gunner’s arms, where she also finds safety with someone who understands her struggles.
Attempts on Gunner’s life threaten their future, but so do the secrets Shelby withholds from him. When those secrets come to light Gunner will have a decision to make. Will he choose to stand with his loyal Outlaw brothers or will he choose the path that crosses them—and leads him right into her arms?
Warning: Contains adult content, graphic violence, and dark emotional scenarios that may trigger some readers.

ADULT EXCERPT:

Appropriate or not, I rifled through Shelby’s bureau, pulling out comfortable-looking clothing rather than the sexy underthings I’d have loved to see on her body. The second she’d stripped down to a mere t-shirt, nipples pebbled from the cold air of the house, my dick had decided to fuck with the goddamn situation and enjoy the sights.
And her ass beneath those damn fatigues? Shit. Even better than I’d imagined.
I adjusted myself, teeth clenched, and made my way back across the hallway to the closed bathroom door. My soft knock went unanswered, and I opened the door enough to speak though. A blast of that herbal scent from her shampoo tightened my dick to the point of pain.
“I got you some clothes,” I said, slipping them onto the sink beside the door, keeping my gaze averted from the shower directly ahead.
“Thanks.” Her voice broke.
“You okay?” How many times had I asked her that, knowing she’d say yes even though she wasn’t? I wasn’t usually one for a loss of words. “Shelby?”
“Y—Yeah.” She sniffled a bit, and the shower shut off.
I forced myself to step back into the hall and quietly closed the door in front of me. Shelby had to be in shock—I wouldn’t put it past her to climb out of the shower without a thought of her nudity while I stood in the doorway.
Dick aching, hands clenched at my sides, I told myself she needed a friend, nothing more. Sitting on the edge of her bed to wait for her didn’t lessen the tight confines of my leathers. A bookshelf on the far wall held old paperbacks, pictures, and knickknacks, and even an old gray stuffed bunny that looked well-worn and well-loved.
I wondered at her life before that day, her childhood, what happy moments she’d tucked away in her memory. I wondered, too, at the life ahead of her and how she would cope with becoming a civilian again—alone, without family except for a cousin she wasn’t close with, and without the brotherhood-type club that had helped me.
While I expected she wouldn’t be able to handle group therapy, I knew of two therapists who would fit her in if asked. Talking her into it would be another matter altogether since most returning vets didn’t want to be seen as being weak—even though seeking help wasn’t in my book.
With a shitty family—old, drunk dad, deceased mom, younger sister addicted to pain killers—I’d been thankful to find someone who helped me unload. I’d had a few girlfriends here and there, but none of them had understood my need for the Navy and the Outlaws after getting out. I needed that companionship, that brotherhood that gave my life meaning after struggling to adapt to home again.
Shelby’s arrival in the bedroom’s doorway prickled my skin with awareness and wiped all thoughts but her from my head.
Waves of damp red hair hung to her waist. She’d gone without the bra I’d included in the pile of clothes, and the tight t-shirt revealed every goddamn curve of her plump tits, including her tightened nipples.
I clenched my teeth and tore my gaze off her before my eyes could eat up her long legs encased in dark leggings and wonder at the color of hair hiding her pussy. “Come over here,” I said, pulling back her comforter and angling my body away from hers to hide my straining erection.
She obeyed without a word, curling on her side to face me, hands folded beneath her cheek. Light blue eyes fringed with equally pale lashes with a hint of red at their tips, peered up at me as I slouched to a crouch beside her bed.
My hand moved on its own to smooth strands of her hair away from her face, and she sighed, her eyelids fluttering shut beneath my touch, her freckles stark against her pale skin. “Will you stay while I sleep?”
“If you want me to.”
“Yes. Beside me, please.” Her brow furrowed. “I—I can’t be alone right now.”
Knowing there was no way in fuck I could crawl under the covers and hold her close, I laid down on top of her comforter behind her after texting Brewer to let him know I wouldn’t be returning to the compound that night. Shelby turned and tucked herself into me the best she could considering the blankets between us and let out another sigh.
“Thank you for saving my life and bringing me home.”
“Thank you for allowing me to be your knight in shining armor.”
A huff of light laughter escaped her, and my lips responded. I pulled her closer, settling her cheek on my chest and rubbed my fingertips against her scalp.
“Promise you’ll be here when I wake?” she murmured, her voice fading.
“Promise, sweet thing. Close your eyes and sleep. I’ll keep you safe.”

Today's fabulous guest author is S. J. Maylee with her novel Taking Chances

Thank you for having me, Elodie. I’m thrilled to be here and share a little bit about my debut, TAKING CHANCES.

First, I’ll tell you I’m a list maker. I make lists for everything. They’re my attempt to look organized and sometimes I actually pull it off, lol. Once inspiration hit for TAKING CHANCES, I made a list of the things I wanted to make sure I included. These five definitely helped and I wanted to share them with you.

Five things TAKING CHANCES had to have:

  1. A heroine who doesn’t know how strong she is. Lydia works hard and doesn’t expect much in return. You might say she has some issues with self-worth. I wanted to watch her change over the course of the story. She does and I’m so proud of her.
  2. A hero who needs love. Jake has molded his life into something he doesn’t even want. Unfortunately, he thinks he deserves it to be that way. When Lydia walks into his life, his desire for her forces the start of his change and it’s further fueled by his love for her.
  3. Sexual Tension. This is a must have in every story I write. I love me some good ole sexual tension. Since I forced Lydia and Jake together at work, a place where thoughts of sex shouldn’t take place, that’s exactly where their thoughts go. Some of my favorite scenes are the two of them fighting and losing the battle against the passion burning within.
  4. Heat. I love romance, just see must have number five, lol, but I also love me some heat. The way a dominant man can build the need in a submissive woman is fascinating to me. Lydia learns a lot about herself through this story and she doesn’t always get it right. There’s one scene I knew I had to have. The punishment scene. The scene does a lot of things, proves a lot of things to both Lydia and Jake. Jake’s punishment of choice is holding Lydia over his lap and spanking her with his bare hand. Yes, it’s hot. Yum!
  5. An Happily Ever After. My first love in life is romance, plain and simple. It’s not just the way HEAs end, it’s how they get there. I hope you’ll enjoy their journey as much as I have.

TAKING CHANCES

Lydia’s father walked away from her when she was eight. She’s struggled to not let him affect her, but fears she wasn’t loveable enough to make him stay. Jake wants to love one woman, but after scaring the last woman he met outside of the club, he doubts he has the right. She protects her heart by sticking with her fantasies, and he lives by a set of rules that excludes women who choose a vanilla lifestyle.

The two will be kept in a conference room working together until their special project is complete. If Lydia and Jake hold tight to their bland lives, they’ll always yearn for love that is out of reach. But together they can find common ground, passion, and a reason to take chances. Once they discover the grand possibilities of the love they desire, they find themselves in the very place they tried never to be again, facing unguaranteed love.

Read an  EXCERPT:

“Look at me, Lydia.”
He pushed her. “Why?” She shifted her gaze and hit him with her direct stare.
“Thank you. I needed to see your eyes.” He reached out and swiped a lock of hair from her face. He tucked the strand behind her ear, and let his finger drag down her face to her shoulder. All the while his gaze captured hers, not letting go. “How are you this morning?”
“I’m okay.”
“Okay? Hmm, maybe I should do something to improve your mood? What would you say to that?”
“Here?” she gasped and quickly turned to look out the door.
He grabbed hold of her shoulders, lifting her slightly off the floor.
“Yes, here.” He brought their bodies together, claimed her lips and swept his tongue through her mouth, awakening her sexual hunger.
She felt wanted. She felt claimed. Images from the night before swam in her mind. Silly challenges from the office mean girl were all forgotten. He set her down and nipped at her lower lip.
“We have a lot to do today. Unfortunately we cannot go any further, now.” He stepped back behind his desk as casually as if he’d just greeted the mail man.
“But you would want to?” Still looking at the papers on his desk, she didn’t think he heard her. She took a step closer. “You would repeat last night?”
Her words stopped him. His gaze searched her face. Placing his hands on the desk he leaned forward and said, “Lydia, I fully intend to further explore your body and mind. After all, there are a few places I haven’t yet completely inspected.”
Her mind ran through what he had done to her last night, and there was only one place she could think of. Warmth fluttered through her face.
“Now, that is a beautiful sight.” He returned to his papers. “I’m going to have to keep thinking of ways to shock you simply to see you blush again.” With the papers properly sorted, his attention returned to her. “Is Gina a problem?”
Gina was a lot of things, but she’d never thought of her as a problem. “I don’t think so.”
“Don’t be afraid to put her in her place. She likes that more than she lets on. She’s the type to push so she can be pushed back.”
“I hadn’t thought of her that way. Interesting.”
“Let me know if she becomes a problem.” His gaze drilled into hers, not letting her escape.
“Okay.”
“Okay?” His posture remained controlled, but the smirk couldn’t be missed.
She added her own version of the devilish grin, which ignited another blush before she even spoke. “Okay, Sir.”
“Trouble.” He stalked towards her and ruthlessly swept his hand under the hem of her skirt to press firmly along her panties. His lips pressed to her ear. “Hot and damp.”
The palm of his hand pressed on her clit, and he bent his knuckles, sending the tips of his fingers past the edge of her panties to drag along her slit.
“Be careful what you say to me, sweetheart, or you’ll shatter my control.” With one last drag of his fingers, he pulled away and walked from the room.

So what is Erotic Romance?

So what is erotic romance?

I have to write this post because more and more I am dismayed by readers, bloggers, and vendors confusing my  contemporary, erotic romance books with erotica, or (sighs) porn.
Romance critics, romance book blogs, readers, vendors, people I thought would know the difference...DON'T. It's very disheartening.

I have nothing against erotica, people can read and write what they want to, but I am tiring a little of having to defend my books, and their genre to people who say they don't like/review/blog about erotica. I have blog guests who write erotica, it's fine, it's just that I don't write erotica.
The confusion in large numbers of peoples' minds between Erotica and Erotic Romance is leading some publishers to add definitions to their submission pages. (Sadly there are still some publishers who don't know the difference).
It seems even some large book sellers don't know the difference.

Erotic romance is even confused with Porn, by detractors of the genre.
Erotic romance isn't that new having emerged around 2005 and had a huge leap in popularity since then. So you might think 'people' would know what is is by now.
Readers who want to see 'behind the bedroom door' buy erotic romance.

So what is erotic romance?

It's a love story, a story where there MUST BE a happy ending, it has graphic sex in the love scenes because they are part of the relationship development. It's a story, plot heavy, but the sex scenes are so integral they need to be there. It can be any sub genre of romance as long as it follows those guidelines. The characters are going to fall in love, and stay in love. The HEA must be there.

It's a weird thing when you write contemporary, erotic romance and reviews pop up saying 'A sweet romance,...' Is that because my books are developed stories, with stand out characters and arcs in the plot? The sex is graphic but so well crafted into the love story they forget?

Sweet romance is also a genre, it's romance with the bedroom door closed.
My bedroom doors are open.
Erotica is about the sex, and emotions sometimes, not necessarily a relationship and it doesn't usually have a happy ending, ( or it needn't have one as opposed to erotic romance that must) sometimes it doesn't have much of a plot.
Porn-according to Wiki is "Works of pornography consist of sexual acts without a plot line"
