Longing for Her
A Risso Family Novella
Contemporary Romance
Release Date: May 7, 2015

Straight-laced Cole Risso has longed for his sister’s bohemian best friend Gwen since he first laid eyes on her as a kid. Now, as future patriarch of the Risso Family, he’s expected to marry well. A free spirit and unconventional daughter of a pot-toking hippie hardly qualifies.
When one night of giving into temptation ruins them both for any other, Cole and Gwen are faced with a decision - love the other enough to let them go, or defy family expectations and fight for their hearts’ desires.  No matter the decision, their choices have the power to destroy all they hold dear.

I rounded the couch, but halted as a body came into view.
Cole lounged against the far side, one hand behind his head, half-empty beer bottle in the other. “Hey.”
Our gazes collided, sending a shock wave of energy through my blood. My heel itched to spin, but his focus wandered down my body and back up again, lingering on my bare thighs.
Oh, the temptation to taste him one more time. Three years of simmering desire had my kettle ready to scream hallelujah. “Hey,” I whispered back. “I thought you’d left.”
His smile melted my bones. “Decided to stay a while and reminisce.”
My lips tugged up. “I was eyeing the back of the couch while stealing some whiskey and doing the same thing.” Kind of.
“Care to join me?”
I considered the cushion closest to me and bit on the inside of my lip as temptation and love for the sexy man a few paces away warred in my brain. Knowing I owed Cole an apology, I decided to sit, curling my legs under me. “Sorry for being so harsh earlier. I…I didn’t mean to hurt you.”
Cole twisted sideways to place the bottle on the coffee table. “I shouldn’t have cornered you like that.” He started to sit up, but hesitated, a question in his eyes.
“It’s all right. I won’t run.”
The leather squeaked as he swung his feet to the floor and leaned back, hands on his thighs. His blue tie hung loose, the top two buttons of his dress shirt unbuttoned. A hint of dark hair called out to my fingers. Averting my eyes, I focused on the tumbler clasped in both my hands.
“I know I’ve said it hundreds of times, Gwen, but I’m sorry. Please say you forgive me.”
Another gulp of whiskey gave me courage to speak. “Forgiving in my mind means making things right—getting back to normal and moving on.” I lifted my head enough to focus on the knot of his tie. “I can’t do that with you, Cole.”
“Why not?”
“Because even though it’s expected you’ll marry an uptight, snobbish princess,” I sucked in air and allowed the words to spew, “I want you every second of the day.”
His chest stopped its rise and fall, and I glanced up at his face.
Mistake.
Longing like I’d never known reached out from his eyes and froze me in place. My breath caught. Nipples pebbled beneath my thin shirt.
Every muscle in my body quivered as he stood and walked toward me, unwavering gaze on my face.
“What—” I licked my lips, hating how my voice wavered. “What are you doing?”
“Give me the whiskey.”
My pulse thrummed with life, and I put the glass in his outstretched hand.
He set it on the coffee table without breaking eye contact and leaned down, placing his hands against the back of the couch on either side of me, making an effective cage. His face hovered mere inches from mine.
I breathed in as he exhaled, the subtle scent of peppermint flooding my mouth with saliva. His lower lip called out to my teeth; the shadow lining his jaw begged for my tongue.
“Did you mean what you said about once being enough, Gwen? Because it’s not for me. I want to taste every inch of your skin. Bury myself inside you.”
My breath caught, and moisture flooded my panties making me squirm on the cushion.
I opened my mouth, having no idea what words would tumble out, but he swooped down, capturing my parted lips before I could speak.
Blessed Mary, mother of God.

Marianne checked the time—five-fifteen, and Drew should be in soon for the last hour or so of opening time. Fayme had gone home and the steady stream of customers stopped. People would be preparing for the range of exciting nightlife on offer all over the city. Marianne opened late three nights a week, but today wasn’t one of them. She walked to her shop window and stared out past the display of artwork and silk scarves. She considered what Sophie had told her about her grandparents. There was no one left to ask for corroboration. That’s why Drew lived in her house. She had so much room and Drew shared all the expenses. He’d sometimes get a gig as a sound engineer when a movie or television show filmed in town. He’d been lucky and worked on three in a row two years running. The money was good and Drew invested in the shop so that they could extend. Marianne gazed unseeing at the passersby.
She pictured Drew, his dark hair, his blue eyes, the way his shirts fit over his muscular body. She allowed herself the vision of his faded jeans hanging low on his hips. Once she’d glimpsed him naked, raw need to touch him, kiss him, feel his skin under her palms, had almost crippled her then, and it tore into her heart right now like a spear. She leaned on the frame around the window display, awash with sorrow that he would only ever be her friend. She sighed and turned to tidy shelves and refill some of the stands emptied by customers that day. He’ll never shake that addiction, he’ll always be a player, he’s a gorgeous guy who had girls throw themselves at him, and so he’s taken what’s been on offer. It must be exhilarating to be wanted, because women do want him. I see it in their eyes when he’s in the shop.

Fear drained away as he watched her from underneath his lashes. One long gold-painted nail beckoned to him. She lay draped across the chaise. The blood-red silks that hung from her shoulders were fastened only with a girdle of twined gold at her waist. Outside, the wind began to wail. Sand shushed against the walls of the tent. The scent of cinnamon and something else he could not name suffused the hot, dry air inside. In the dim light her skin glowed with perspiration and the very air vibrated with her vitality. Under the almost transparent fabric her nipples were clearly visible. He did not want to respond to her. But his swelling need surged over him.
“Come," she said. He could lose himself in those black eyes, lined with kohl.
He staggered to his feet. His naked body was still damp from bathing in the muddy pool of the oasis. His shoulder bled, as well as his thigh. She would like that.
She pointed to a place at her side. He dropped to his knees again. He knew what she wanted, and suddenly he wanted to give it to her more than he had ever wanted anything in his life. As she reached for him her eyes began to glow red, blood-red like her silks.

When Holly takes a vacation with friends, she never dreams she will meet someone who turns her lonely life around in just one afternoon…the question is, can this kind of heat last…

She couldn’t tear her gaze from his blue eyes. Her entire body reacted wildly to this man. Breasts heavy, pussy drenched, eyes about to close with a haze of lust, she heard a sigh break from her lips.

Will brought his other hand gently around Holly’s head, held her, and watched her eyes as he descended on her mouth.

His fingers against her ear sparked rivulets of sensation. They trickled goose bumps down her neck to her breasts.

His kiss was soft, sexy, lingering, and when he stopped, Holly followed his mouth with hers, the desperation for more kisses driving her.

By Valerie Rouse for Readers’ Favorite 4 stars
Unexpected Storm is a short, sexy novel. The beginning was really unexpected. It took me literally by surprise! This tactic is very effective because it spurs on the average reader to become more engrossed in the story. I certainly did. The use of erotica was tastefully implemented. The language is colloquial and easy to understand. I love the fact that author Elodie Parkes fully developed the characters instead of just giving superficial highlights of them. The contrast between the rainy conditions and the scorching physicality between the two main characters is very clever and exotic. Any reader would love to be a willing participant in the passionate embraces showcased at the beginning of the novel. The sultry cover photo also helps to perpetuate sexual tension and create a vivid impact on the reader. I also appreciate the fact that both points of view of the main characters were included in the novel. Most of the time, the female’s thoughts are highlighted in romance novels. This change from the norm is a plus because it gives the realistic impression that men experience inner emotional turmoil in relationships. This book is hot! I recommend it to all readers who need a vicarious shot of sexy romance in their lives.

From several points in the room, Greta heard a soft hiss. “The Ghost.” Jax swiveled, then froze, her Lava Lamp forgotten.
For Greta, things started to move in slow motion. She felt a tug, almost physical, from behind her. She turned like she was moving through viscous liquid.
The man who strode through the crowd had shaggy dark hair, a long leather duster and stubble of at least three days. That’s where the similarity to the jerk who’d just been tossed out ended. This guy was no poseur. He couldn’t care less about the crowd. He didn’t even spare them a glance. The fierce look in his eyes was all for the red-washed stage. He strode toward it like he was moving through hell toward redemption.
“Get people on the sound board and the lights,” a hefty man hissed to someone in the shadows. Club manager? Several guys in black jeans and tee shirts scurried away
Greta was having a hard time catching her breath. What was with that? Yeah, the guy was a looker, but she’d been hanging out with beautiful men since she was twelve, and they’d never affected her this way. Cheekbones? Check.
Strong jaw? Likewise. But his chin had a dimple, if she wasn’t mistaken. His lips were full, sensual. He felt dangerous, but contradictory.
The crowd didn’t yell at the newcomer or jeer. They backed out of his way respectfully. The guy hopped up on the stage and surveyed the instruments abandoned there, his back to the crowd. He glanced to the keyboards but settled on a guitar, a candy-apple red one that glinted in the dim light. He picked it up, flipped a few switches on the amp and corrected the tuning. Back still to the audience, he strummed a chord that seemed to reach right down into your guts and quiver. As the echo died away, the man on stage threw his head back and began to play in earnest. It was no song she knew. She’d be willing to bet no one except this Ghost knew that song. The cascading notes were angry, but with a sobbing sound below that vibrated with sadness in your lungs. The notes started to soar only to be dashed to earth again and again by evil riffs. It was as if the man was ripping out his soul with that music. It went on and on. Nobody danced. Nobody fidgeted. Nobody talked. Nobody got up to go to the bathroom. They just listened, mesmerized. Maybe they knew they’d never hear something like this again.
He turned around to the audience, but Greta knew he wasn’t seeing anybody in the room. Emotions flickered across his expression as he pulled out those wild notes and sent them skittering or thundering or sidling slyly into the room.
When the last resounding chord crashed into silence, he stood with head down. The place erupted in applause and shouts. “Ghost!” Greta felt like a linen suit in Arizona in the summertime. She came to herself and grabbed for her martini. Her hand was shaking.
What the hell?
