Snippet:
Sitting opposite each other with their coffee in the low
lighting, Cathy watched Matt for a few moments as he told her about a new house
he was designing for one of his clients. He was nice, he was attractive, but he
didn’t light her fire the way Owen Sheringham had that afternoon. She smiled at
Matt.
“Thank you for coming with me to check out the lights.
Thanks for being kind and nice.”
She saw him bask in her words and it hurt her to see it. A
wash of sorrow dampened her pleasure in the kindness he’d shown her. If only
she could have given him more than the friendship, she knew was all she could
offer.
When they split up to go their separate ways, her sorrow
made her lean to him and kiss his cheek. She drew back and saw it had been the
wrong thing to do. There was hope in his eyes.
